Pipeline Fighters and Water Protectors,

You can’t even open an email these days without a little AI callout box at the top asking if you’d like it to summarize things. (Is there one at the top of this right now?)

There’s a lot of hype about AI – but what I hear from folks is, “Are communities really benefiting, and what are the impacts on our land and water?”

Tech companies are integrating AI by default into everything. Google search results now lead with their AI. There is a feeling amongst our communities that AI is being forced on people, and then being used as an excuse for a rapid buildout of data centers, which have yet to provide widespread benefits to rural America.

Well, that’s why Bold IS asking what you think. Right now.

I want to hear what you think about data centers – your hopes, your concerns, and everything in between.

==> Take a few minutes to complete our data center survey.

Last year, I went from hearing about data centers maybe once a month to nearly every week. Things are moving fast, and too often that means our communities aren’t invited to the table – or worse, are straight up ignored.

That’s what happened in Memphis, where Elon Musk illegally installed 33 gas turbines to power his xAI supercomputer. There are no permits and little public oversight. Every day, Elon pollutes the air that residents like Bold Movement Leaders Director and state Rep. Justin J. Pearson breathe. The promise of local wealth has yet to materialize.

Memphis leaders, including Justin, are working to stop the damage being done to their air and health. Now, Bold is assessing how best to support other communities concerned about data centers.

Will you take a few minutes to share your thoughts on data centers and tell us what would be most helpful?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts,

Jane Kleeb and the Bold team
