NEW NYT AD: Pipeline Fighters Thank President Biden for Rejecting Keystone XL, Ask Him to Keep Going, Reject All Trump Pipelines
Farmers, Ranchers and Tribal Nations threatened by KXL applaud President Biden basing his decision on science, honoring treaties, respecting property rights and focusing on racial justice, climate and clean water.
(Washington, DC) — This morning, Bold Nebraska, the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska, and the Indigenous Environmental Network took out a joint full-page print ad in the New York Times applauding the Biden administration for taking swift action to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline. The ad contrasts the clear difference between the Trump Administration’s rush to rubber stamp risky pipelines despite the numerous threats and risks and the Biden Administration’s rejection of Keystone XL based on science, treaty and property rights, racial justice, climate action, and clean water.
The ad also urges Biden to continue to apply that standard and reject other risky projects the Trump administration approved that exacerbate the climate crisis and were rushed through without regard for property rights, Tribal Nations, science and clean water.
As the United States Climate Summit begins, the country’s land, water, climate and communities remain at risk from reckless pipeline projects. Grassroots resistance from the unlikely alliance of farmers, ranchers, Tribal Nations and climate advocates that opposed KXL continues in opposition to several projects across the country. Already, communities are pushing to stop pipelines rubber stamped by Trump, like the Dakota Access, Mountain Valley, and Line 3 pipelines that pollute drinking water, ignore Tribal sovereignty, and fly in the face of the administration’s Build Back Better agenda.
With the release of the New York Times ad, pipeline fighters are urging President Bident to stop the Trump pipelines as part of a bold commitment to climate and justice while working to invest in our communities through clean, modern infrastructure.

KEEP BEING BOLD
When President Biden listened to the unlikely alliance of farmers, ranchers, Tribal Nations and climate advocates to stop the reckless Keystone XL pipeline, he rejected Donald Trump’s approach and applied a Biden standard—basing his decision on science, honoring treaties, respecting property rights and focusing on racial justice, climate and clean water.
But the country’s land and water — and the climate — remain under threat.
Keystone was the first Trump pipeline that Biden rejected, but it should not be the last.
It’s time to reverse course on the risky projects that Trump pushed through that ignore science, and threaten our land and water.
We can invest in our communities through modern infrastructure that creates millions of good paying union jobs without polluting our water or destroying the planet.
In the American Jobs Plan, there are tens of billions of dollars for creating clean energy, capping old oil wells and for replacing lead pipes that poison children in cities across America.
Creating jobs, protecting clean water, listening to science, and respecting our Tribal and local communities—that is the Biden standard and that is how we build back better with bold action by a bold President.
