Adrian Smith, One Foot in the Closet

When it comes to Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, Congressman Adrian Smith certainly likes to keep one foot in the closet and one foot out.

Does Adrian Smith think gay service members should have to lie about their sexual orientation?

In his words, “No.”

Yep, you read that correctly.

On June 3, when asked point blank at his mobile office in Kearney if gays in the armed services should be forced to lie about their sexual orientation, Congressman Smith rapidly replied “No.”

So he’s all for the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, right?

The answer here is also “No.”

Adrian Smith, a Republican Member of Congress that represent’s Nebraska’s Third District, voted with his party and voted against the amendment to the National Defense Act which will repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell pending the Department of Defense implementation report and President Obama’s signature on plan.

You know you are in the extreme minority when you disagree with at least 70% of Americans that think Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is bad public policy. The majority of Americans and Members of Congress believe it needs to be repealed because it’s not good for our national security asking soldiers to lie and because we are a nation that was founded on and honors truth.

So Congressman Smith wants service members to serve honestly but not openly. Confused? Apparently, so is Adrian Smith.

So which is it Congressman Smith? Are you for our service members serving openly and honestly? And if so, why did you vote against repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell?

We’d greatly appreciate it if you came out of the closet on this issue, because your record is more confusing than Clay Aiken’s rotating sexuality.

Comment here and tell Congressman Smith that you think it’s time he comes out of the closet on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Remind him that no one should ever be forced to lie.
