TransCanada’s up to their old tricks, trying to entice Nebraskans to support their dirty pipeline with the promise of jobs and energy independence. While we’ve seen their ads play during Husker games, we’ve also received complaints about a new robocall that they’re running in Nebraska.

We’ve got the full text of the call below, but the gist is that TransCanada is trying to show Sect. Clinton that Nebraskans support the pipeline. They’re desperate to demonstrate that they have real grassroots support.

But Nebraskans know the facts: that this pipeline will not create jobs and will not make our country energy independent. Cornell’s Global Labor Institute just debunked the myth that the Keystone XL will create 20,000 jobs. Bold has pointed out over and over again that TransCanada’s job numbers can’t be trusted.

The claims about ensuring the US’s energy independence are outright lies. Oil Change International has just published an extensive report that uses industry documents to show that the Keystone XL is about expanding access to international markets like Latin America and Europe.

Help us push back on TransCanada’s phoney baloney claims by attending the State Department hearings in Lincoln and Atkinson at the end of the month. We’ll show the State Department where Nebraskans really stand on this bad business pipeline.

Here’s the script from the calls:

Hello.  I’m calling from Nebraskans for Jobs and Energy Independence asking you to press 1 on your keypad, to authorize us to send a Secretary of State Hillary Clinton a letter in support of the Keystone XL Pipeline, which will help increase supply and lower gas prices, create thousands of American jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

To be built – the Pipeline must have an international border crossing permit, which can only be issued by the US Department of State. The Department has asked to hear from Nebraskans in support of the Pipeline, and we’re offering an opportunity for you to do so – now.

Secretary of State Clinton will be the ultimate decision maker to build the Keystone XL Pipeline and bring hundreds of family-supporting jobs to Nebraska, hundreds of millions in new tax revenue, and reduce our dependence on oil from counties like Iran and Venezuela.

Please Press 1 now to authorize us to send a letter to Secretary of State Hilary Clinton in support of the Keystone XL Pipeline, which will help to lower gas prices, create American jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

If Press 1:  Thank you so much for your support for a permit that will allow TransCanada to build a pipeline to carry Canadian crude from Alberta to Houston refineries. We will submit a letter on your behalf in support of the project.

For statistical purposes only, please press 1 now if you are between 18-35 years of age, press 2 now if you are 36-54 years of age, or press 3 now if you are 55 years of age or above.

Lastly, for statistical purposes only, please press 1 now if you are female, and press 2 now if you are male.

Thanks you.  This call paid for by Nebraskans for Jobs and Energy Independence. www.jobsandenergy.org
