The latest from political cartoonist Neal Obermeyer skewers the Nebraska Legislature for its misplaced priorities when it comes to where our tax dollars go, and who must pay taxes.

The Legislature is currently considering a bill that would provide an $800,000 annual tax break to Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society — a “fraternal” organization that sells insurance and has operated in the state for 125 years — and believes it deserves tax-exempt status.

“We love Nebraska, we love Omaha, we want to stay where we are,” Larry King, the firm’s chairman, president and CEO, told the Omaha World-Herald. “But we feel we should get the tax breaks we are due.”
