This coming weekend, April 20-22, all Sandhills lovers should head to Burwell for the Nebraska Prairie Chicken Festival. This unique event is hosted by Calamus Outfitters and the Gracie Creek Landowners.
Festival activities will include birding excursions to see the Greater Prairie Chicken and Sharp-tailed Grouse as well as other area birds. Interesting and informative presentations will include the Traditional Prairie Chicken Dance performance, Beef State presentation and conservationist photography of Michael Forsberg.
Breakout session topics will include: NE Important Bird Areas; Grazing management for Prairie Chickens; Prescribed Fire; Native Butterflies; citizen science opportunities, and so much more!
Plus, there will also be live entertainment featuring local musicians and poets, ranch tours, and of course, great food.
The festival is just the type of eco-tourism that Gov. Heineman brags about…and just the type of eco-tourism that is at risk with TransCanada’s tarsands pipeline.
