Bold Nebraska Response to Pres. Obama’s Pipeline Reference in State of the Union
President Obama: “Let’s set our sights higher than a single oil pipeline”
Lincoln, NE — Pres. Obama made a thinly-veiled reference to the proposed Keystone XL pipeline during his State of the Union address on Tuesday evening.
From the text of the President’s State of the Union address:
“21st century businesses need 21st century infrastructure — modern ports, stronger bridges, faster trains and the fastest internet. Democrats and Republicans used to agree on this. So let’s set our sights higher than a single oil pipeline. Let’s pass a bipartisan infrastructure plan that could create more than thirty times as many jobs per year, and make this country stronger for decades to come.”

Statement of Jane Kleeb, Bold Nebraska director:
“Farmers and ranchers provide more jobs to our state’s economy than this one pipeline. Landowners with solar projects on their land provide more energy to our state’s grid than Keystone XL ever would, since it’s an export pipeline. There is a real risk when this one pipeline spills tarsands and benzene into our water. This one pipeline sets a dangerous precedent of eminent domain for private gain. Rejecting this one pipeline is an act the President can make in a growing list of climate leadership for our families.”
