Before the Thanksgiving holiday, Bold Nebraska, Nebraska Wildlife Federation, Nebraska Sierra Club along with Nebraska landowners and citizens invited Plains Justice to report on TransCanada’s inadequate emergency response plan for the Keystone I pipeline. We also took a copy of the report to Gov. Heineman and Attn. Gen. Bruning to encourage them to act on the pipeline.

ACTIONS
We not only want to share current information on the pipeline with you, we want you to take action with us to help stop the TransCanada Keystone XL pipeline, which is not yet approved by Sec. Clinton, as well as make the current pipeline, Keystone I, in the ground safe.
There are many opportunities in December and January to join us in our opposition to the proposed TransCanada pipeline. Please email us if you want to help organize or participate in the events or have any questions. If you belong to a group, please pass the word around to your members.
Dec. 1, 9am/ State Capitol, 1445 K Street, Lincoln:
Senator Dubas will hold a hearing on the interim study done on oil and gas pipelines. This will take place at the Capitol in Lincoln. We do not have the hearing room yet, but when you arrive you can ask the information desk and they will point you to the room. We are hoping citizens and landowners will be able to give comments and encourage you to come and share your stories and ideas on what the state can do to protect our land and water.
More info on the hearing…On December 1st, the Natural Resources committee of the Nebraska Legislature will hold a hearing on LR 435, a study resolution examining pipelines in the state of Nebraska. The hearing will begin at 9:00 AM with a briefing led by Senators Dubas and Sullivan, who have arranged a presentation for the committee that will take not more than an hour and a half. Public testimony will begin after a ten minute break, sometime between 10:30 and 11:00AM. If it appears that a large number of people have not had a chance to testify by noon, we will break for lunch for an hour and reconvene at 1:15 to finish the hearing. For your convenience the capitol cafeteria is open to the public, or there are many restaurants within a few blocks of the capitol. The hearing will end by 3:00PM. Testimony will be limited to five minutes,view the tips for testifying available on the legislature’s website http://www.nebraskalegislature.gov/about/testifying.php. Also, attendees will have an opportunity to document their presence at the hearing without testifying. This document will be made a part of the official record. An overflow hearing room will be available in the event 1525 fills up.
Dec. 3 / Howard Johnson Riverside Inn, Grand Island:
The Nebraska Farmers Union is holding their state convention with a special session on the TransCanada pipeline. For the first time a TransCanada staff member will be on stage with an advocacy group representative to discuss the pipeline and take questions from the audience (event starts at 2:45pm, but the convention is all day). The fee is $35 and you can attend the workshops all day. We have some funding we can assist individuals with for the conference fee. For more details click here or email us.
Throughout December, towns along the proposed TransCanada pipeline route:
Throughout December, we will visit with landowners and concerned citizens about the TransCanada pipeline with small roundtables to answer questions and brainstorming sessions on actions we can take together. We are in the process of setting these up now. If you live along the pipeline route and would like us to hold one in your town, let us know via email.
Jan. 5, noon-1pm/ State Capitol, 14 Street (between H and K Streets), Lincoln:
Join us on the capitol steps under the President Lincoln statue to remind State Senators, on the opening day of our State Legislature, that it is their duty to protect our land and water. We need at least 25 people to help us with this event on Jan. 5th. So please consider helping during your lunch hour. For more details, email us!
